Description

The Woodcock is a large bulky wading bird with short legs and a very long tapering bill. The plumage is mainly brown to reddish above and buff coloured below with broad wings. Both sexes are similar.

It is largely nocturnal and spends most of the day in dense cover. When flushed from cover it can be identified by it's zigzag flight.
