This fungus is found in clusters on a wide variety broadleaved tress but especially Willow and Elm. It prefers decaying wood or old standing trees. The sticky cap is domed, orange-brown in colour and is inrolled at the margin. The gills are yellow and the stem is smooth and yellow at the top, tapering towards the base where it is elvety and black. This species is stimulated to fruit by cold and even frosty weather.
