note the veil which is lacking in other British species of Pleurotus
Additional Notes: 
Habitat: On living wood of deciduous trees, often in knotholes or branch scars, most frequently on Fagus and Fraxinus and often Acer pseudoplatanus and Sambucus nigra. Also known on Aesculus, Betula, Malus, Populus, Salix, Sorbus aucuparia, Tilia, Ulmus and Zelkova spp. Rarely reported on conifers but a recent, verified collection on Picea sp. Notes: Occasional in England, rarely reported elsewhere. Basidiomes are easily recognisable by the velutinate pilei and the presence of a thick veil (lacking in other British species of Pleurotus).
