A minute greyish-white disc found clustered, often densely massed on rotten wood and wood debris in broadleaf woodland and occasionally on coniferous wood.

The fruitbody is initially cup-shaped, becoming saucer-shaped or flat, arising from a dark, felty stoma. The upper surface (hymenial) is greyish with bluish tints and a paler margin.
Thin and pallid. Odour and taste nort distinctive.
Inedible.
