A yellowish, rounded and hard scaly fungus that tapers into a thisk, ribbed basal region and is found in small groups, usually on sandy soil.
Infrequent from late Summer till Autumn.
Heaths and mixed woodland.
The fruitbody is a dirty-yellowish to ochre-brown colour, with small brownish coloured scales and is thin, leathery and tough, opening by an irregular fissure when mature.
Gleaba is initially whitish, firm, then marbled brown and white then finally a deep olove-brown and powdery.
Inedible.
