Description: 

The Saffron Milkcap has a rounded bright orange cap when young that is sticky when wet, later has darker zones and may be flushed with pale green patches.

Cap: 

When young, the cap is shallowly convex and soon becomes expanded with a central depression and finally funnel-shaped when fully mature. The cap margin remains inrolled. When damp, the cap is greasy and slippery.

Flesh: 

The flesh is white and orange in the rind of the stem, which becomes hollow.

Gills: 

Crowded, of varying length narrow and slightly decurrent and almost the same colour as the cap, becoming greenish on bruising.

Spores: 

Cream

Stem: 

Thick, cylindrical, sometimes tapered towards the base, colour is similar to the cap but the surface has small, darker, shallow pits.

Distribution: 

Common and widespread.

Habitat: 

Found in groups or circles with Spruce and Pine in needle litter or grass.
