Information
Description: 

A medium to large bolete with a pale-brown cap solitary or scattered in braodleaf woodland with Oak.

Distribution: 

Infrequent during Summer.

Habitat: 

Scattered on soil, preferably with Oak.

Cap: 

Convex, downy at first then matt and cracked, hazel-brown with ochre tinges, cuticle slightly overhanging the margin.

Flesh: 

Cap flesh thick and firm, straw to brick coloured, blackening where cut. Stem flesh grey, firm and full, becoming vinaceous. No distinctive odour or taste.

Gills: 

Pores circular and small, lemon-yellow, darkening brown where bruised. Tubes concolorous with pores, depressed, blackening where cut.

Stem: 

Slender,straw coloured, more or less equal or slightly swollen towards the base, covered with wooly scales in an irregular buff or cinnamon network. No ring.
