Cap: 

Scarlet, convex, occasionally tinged vinaceous with age, cap slightly downy when young becoming dry, smooth and cracking with age.

Flesh: 

Buff coloured, thick and soft, no change or a slight bluing above the tubes when cut or bruised

Gills: 

Pores are lemon-yellow, turning a greenish colour with age and occasionally bruising greenish. Tubes same colour as pores, depressed or adnate.

Spores: 

Brown or olive-green.

Stem: 

Pale yellow or buff covered with red fibrils in the lower two-thirds. No ring. The flesh in the stem is a buff colour, turning slightly blue when cut.
