Description:
The author of this first ever book devoted to the mammals, amphibians and reptiles in Hertfordshire, makes no apology for including almost as many humans as animals. The survival of all of the species described is inextricably linked with the treatment they receive directly or indirectly from the dominant mammals present, the humans.
In addition to the beautifully illustrated systematic list, special features include a study of a Hertfordshire farm where hedge removal and crops have been carefully documented over four decades.
The title is one of several produced or supported through its invaluable recording activities by the Hertfordshire Natural History Society which has covered breeding birds, birds, flora, wild flower habitats and butterflies already. The Society has an archive of 130 years of Transactions and there is reference to this and the archaeology of fossil evidence in this book.
