The book that records the state of the county's birds at the beginning of the new Millennium.
In creating this significant account, 5000 hours were spent in the field by 160 observers over a six year period. All 915 tetrads in Wiltshire were surveyed for a minimum of 4 hours, with supplementary visits in summer to assess the full extent of distribution. The results show the breeding distribution of each species by tetrad and summer abundance to the same scale. Each of the 308 species of bird ever recorded in Wiltshire also has its own comprehensive text, and each has been illustrated by one of 35 of the nation's leading bird artists. The cover was designed by Ian Lewington. The book weighs 2.5kg, and is therefore a weighty tome in more ways than one.
