Strengths:
Comprehensive coverage and detailed descriptions
Weaknesses:
Dated presentation
All three of these guides are classic books to own if you enjoy fossil hunting in the UK. Designed to aid identification and aimed at both professionals and amateurs this book is packed with detailed information on morphology and classification of groups visually supported by detailed black and white sketches. The three books together covers the three major eras. You can buy them as a box set or you may wish to purchase individually to correspond with the geology in your area. For example living in Devon with Somerset and Dorset next door I’ve only purchased the Mesozoic book. The presentation is starting to look a bit dated compared to other glossy guides but you won’t find a better series of books on fossil identification. Highly recommended.
