VERY sharp, light, fast focus, use with converter, lightweight, quality build.
Weaknesses:
None
Getting the Canon 400 5.6L raised the quality expectation I had of camera lenses, immediately getting rid of the three I already had which now didn’t seem up to the job. The choice was between this and the Canon 100-400mm and don’t regret buying this as I’ve only once found I would have liked to have zoomed out otherwise 400 is usually not enough reach.
I’ve had this lens now for nine months and can’t find fault with it. It’s very sharp including at f5.6, the speed of focusing is amazing and has no problem with birds in flight, it’s light enough to hold, you can use it with a converter with no obvious sign of quality loss, the robustness has already been proven for me when I managed to drop it without adverse effect and the built in lens hood is very useful and helps protect the front of the lens.
I really can’t find any fault with this and can highly recommend it.
