Fun exploration of all things to do with clouds and associated phenomena. Very informative. Infectious enthusiasm.
Colour photos underused - some monochrome are less effective on the rather course, old-style paper.
I bought this little book in the Summer of 2006 as a birthday present to myself. I have always wanted to find out more about weather, in general, and clouds in particular. After all, with our climate, clouds are an ever-present part of life and occasional talking point!
What struck me immediately (and persueded me to leave the shop with it in my possesion) was that this is, at heart, a fun book with an idiosyncratic layout that includes drawings, anecdotes and even a quiz. For me as an absolute novice, I found it absolutely enthralling.
However beyond the fun element, this is a very informative piece on many aspects of weather and sky phenomena as well as the eponymous clouds. The section on sun-dogs and halos I found particularly facinating and has given me another aspect of the natural world with which to engage.
If I had to crticise, I suppose I would have preferred to have had more coloured illustrations. However, the b/w illustrations mostly do their job but are occasionally a little unclear on the chosen quality of paper. Also the sheer ehthusiasm of the author for his chosen topic can be a little wearing but one cannot criticise his passion for the subject.
