Strengths:
Bright clear image in a handy format.
Weaknesses:
Some edge of field distortion and case on the small side
I bought the 10x50 for astronomy and general wildlife use. The images are bright and crisp, for example the phases of Venus are visible from gibbous through to crescent, Saturns moon Titan is easily visible and shows the correct colour, while Jupiters disk and 4 moons are an easy catch. Many fainter globular clusters and galaxies are also possible with M81 & M82 being a particularly fine sight. As might be expected, they also excel at wildlife watching at dusk or under a full moon, and are a joy to use at any other time.
Sadly there is some edge of field distortion (and blurryness at the edges) but this is only really noticable when looking into thickets of branches. There is also some chromic aberation, but you would expect this and it is not overly obtrusive. Note this should not really be taken as critisism of a pair of mid range binos like these, it is to come as close as possible to overcoming these two problems that people pay 4 figure sums for top of the range sets.
The design is slim and simple but offers an excellent grip, these are very easy to use single handed which following an incident after I purchased mine has proved to be essential.
The only real downside are the supplied accessories. While the neckstrap is good the case is just too small to fit when the eyecups are extended. The supplied objective lens caps are also no good while the binos are in use, although Opticron do offer alternatives. Also bear in mind you need a separate tripod adaptor if you wish to mount them.
All in all a fine pair of mid range binos with good optical performance. Mine go just about everywhere now.
