Strengths:
good pictures
Weaknesses:
obsession with medium format
Initially this book is very impressive , particularly the quality of the pictures, and I am sure it would make a good coffee table book , or source for inspiration. However it is let down by mr thompsons obbession with medium format as "the only choice for macro photography" (that this is assuredly not so is demonstrated repeatedly in our galleries).
If you did want to use an Med F camera for macro this would be an excellent guide but for the SLR or compact user it is a bit of a let down
