Questar Birder scopes are Field Models specially modified for birding. They substitute the lower power and wider field 40x eyepiece described above for the Field Model’s standard 53x eyepiece. In addition, they substitute an 8.5x large aperture refractor-type finder, with a wide 300’ field of view, for the Field Scope’s standard small aperture 4x finder. This increases the weight by 11 oz.
The Birders add quickly-removed soft black plastic dust covers for the objective lens, finderscope lens, and eyepiece to the Field Model’s slower-to-remove but more protective thread-on metal lens cover. As a final upgrade, the Birder models also include the normally-optional 24-turn faster focusing mechanism. The faster-acting 24-turn focusing is a helpful feature for more quickly tracking moving birds and wildlife.
All other specifications of the Field Models remain the same with the Birders – a built-in Barlow lens to increase eyepiece magnification at the flip of a lever, slide-on metal lens shade, basic camera coupling set (needs a Questar T-ring), waterproof case, etc.
Absolutely pinpoint resolution, total freedom from spurious color and distortion, an image clarity and contrast in a class all its own – a Questar is truly the Rolls-Royce of spotting scopes . . . be it the Field Model or Birder. As the review in Audubon concluded simply, "Questar is superb." If you want the world’s very best spotting scope, a Questar is it. Period. Case closed.

Strengths:
amazing optical clarity , magnification , and build
Weaknesses:
price
To be honest I dont own one of these, but we have one at work and I borrow it whenever I can.
The quality and optical clarity of this scope put it in a different class and nothing else I have used comes close.
It gives a bright clear image even at 60x zoom and proves invaluable for reading colour ring combinations etc
If you are serious about your birding and have the money this is the absolute pinacle of the birding telescope world.
