Strengths:
Versatile, intuitive, includes radio
Weaknesses:
I really rate this piece of kit and have now dispensed of the idea of buying an Ipod as this does what an Ipod does and so much more.
Media may be downloaded direct from CF/CFII, Microdrive/MD/SD/MMC,MS, MS Pro and xD cards, which can be plugged directly into the unit, or via the USB cable provided. I have had mine a couple of weeks and have three movies on it, probably 1,000 or so songs and a couple of Gigs of images, and the performance of each is very good.
I really like the radio facility on this model, something I have never come across before on such a storage device. Great whilst out walking but perhaps not recommended when carrying expensive camera gear - as you should really keep your wits about you.
If you are going away for a couple of weeks and dont have a laptop, and limited cards, this is great for emptying your cards onto.
The screen is good enough to watch movies on and look at your images but it is not show quality and I have seen better.
At less than £200 though it is competitively priced and I am very happy with it.

Hi
Looks like I may have found an Archos replacement. I've an Archos AV420 that has done sterling service as photo storage and MP3 player (didn't watch too many movies on it really), but it died on me recently and I've been looking around for something that handles my CF and XD cards.
I wonder if you could update us on any findings you have with the Premier when you get a chance? I'd be very interested in your thoughts after a few more field trips.
cheers
Dave

Sure Dave
I used it last weekend to download about half a gig of images onto from a CF card. It took literally a couple of minutes. I had shot RAW and Jpeg large at 8 mega (simultaneously) and both are shown. Straight away the quality of the image is obvious enough to know whether to ditch it or keep it, but obviously moreso with the Jpeg, as it has been sharpened etc. However, the real bonus is that its freed up the CF card.
I have found the unit to be quick, stable and I love the fact that I can use the radio when on walks and I bought some mini speakers for it too so can listen to my tunes whilst staying in a B&B

Strengths:
Suports Raw Format
Weaknesses:
Does not take XD cards
I bought the Premier because it can handle NEF Raw format files, something the Archos range does not do and according to their help line they have no plans of doing so in their firmware updates.
Also according to the Jessops catalogue, adverts in photo mags and their internet site the unit supports XD cards, but I have been informed by the Jessops help line that this is not the case.
The idea of been able to take some music and video with you on a long trip and store photos in RAW format to bring back home rather than taking a laptop with you on your travels a real bonus.
The only other criticism is that the sound can fall out of sync on the video. I would also like to find out if it is possible to get firmware updates for the Premier ?
