Strengths:
Great for Alien grasses & Hybrids although Festuca still difficult
Weaknesses:
To expensive to get dirty in the field
Again back up with Stace it is an excellent introduction to grasses but there are much better ones if you are serious.

Strengths:
clear and concise descriptions, good overall pictures and diagrams
Weaknesses:
This is a great book for beginners and really covers everything you'll ever need to know about the different grasses and sedges about, unless you intend to dedicate your existence to the identification of grasses and sedges. This is the only field guide I've ever needed when dealing with grassland communities, and I'd strongly recommend you start with this one. If you find you need a more comprehensive guide there are more detailed guides available.
