This group of relatively large, colourful and familiar insects are a very popular subject of study because their behaviour can be observed without the use of elaborate equipment, enabling amateur and experienced entomologists alike to get close to these colourful and social creatures. One of the latest books in the Collins New Naturalist Series.
At 580 pages long, it's probably the most comprehensive book on British Bumblebees to date. Contains everything you would want to know about Bumblebees. As well as covering their natural history, the book also contains chapters on identifying the Bees, either through photographs or the much more useful identification keys.
A must for anyone serious about studying these enigmatic creatures.
I highly recommend it.
