Description:
Medium to large variable bolete, with dull brown cap which cracks showing pinkish flesh, sulphur yellow pores becoming greenish and red streaked stem.
Habitat:
Common; June to November; usually in deciduous woods on mossy banks or amongst birch.
Additional Notes:
Previously listed in A to Z under Xerocomus chrysenteron but in accordance with the Basidiomycota Checklist this species now known as Boletus chrysenteron.
