Description: 

Tall sometimes massive agaric. An excellent edible*

Cap: 

At first obtusely ovoid becoming convex with flattened centre and later expanded; yellowish brown bruising yellow covered in small brown, fibrous, pointed scales in moreor les concentric rings.

Flesh: 

Whitish discolouring yellowish brown with age, firm and thick; smelling of bitter almonds.

Spores: 

Dark brown, ellipsoid, smooth

Gills: 

Free, broad, crowded at first pallid pink becoming chocolate brown or blackish.

Stem: 

Cylindrical, white bruising yellow, whitish above ring, scaly below; ring attached to upper part of stem, persistent., large, hanging, white.

Habitat: 

Infrequent, late summer to autumn in trooping groups on soil with B-L or coniferous trees

* Do not confuse with the poisonous A. xanthoderma
