Found on new nature reserve formed from old coal mining spoil heap.

I decided on Dictoptera sp because of the pronotum, but lacking information to get to sp. level.

Thanks oxycera. I have been re-looking at this image ever since I posted, thinking that I had it wrong.

I have been searching for a similar species amongst Cantharis, but the closest I could come up with was C. livida, but was not entirely satisfied with that for an ID.

I will get it renamed. Thanks for looking

Nice pic! I think you're right with Cantharis livida - I don't think any of the other pale Cantharis have the blackish outer third to the hind thighs. There's a guide to soldier-beetles on my local wildlife trust's website:
