You may get more help if you copy the Forum Image Code and start a new thread in the British Bird forum and paste the code tou copied.

Thanks Dai. I did try the suggestion you made. and the result seems to be a Sanderling 
As I noted in my request for id post, it was the lack of characteristic sanderling behaviour that made me discount that as a species.

Thats a sure-fire winner of a bird it is normally impossible to get close to or get it to stand still if you do happen (in a million years!) to get it to stand still for a sec. . . well done! Tis a cracking shot

Thank you John D & Pauline.
I am pleased with this, not my normal genre of photography. the bit I particularly liked was the probe holes. Technique was a classic sit still and wait for it to approach.
