Other sources appear confused between these two and H. pseudoconica.

On my lawn. Cap 30 to 40mm., split into 4 lobes. Flesh under the skin of the cap is yellow when freshly broken, turning black. The cap is reported to be yellow or orange when young, not observed in this instance.

H. nigrescens has been 'dropped' as a species and now, anything previously called this is now ID as H. conica.
