Photographed at Lancaster 28.07.06. Lucky enough to live near a place where these rare migrants turned up. It's the first time I've seen Yellow-winged and I was not dissapointed. A very approachable darter, compared with Red-veined!

Excellent shot. Shows the wing detail perfectly. Interesting one, you could easily mistake it for a Ruddy at a (very!) casual glance.

thanks for the kind comments.



I think some Ruddy Darters are being reported as Yellow-Winged especially when the yellow at the base of the wing is larger than normal. Every year I chase a few 'Yellow-winged 'round only to find they are Ruddy!
