Went back up the Grampian hills yesterday, with my Dad, hoping to spot some more Ptarmigan and Mountain Hares. When we reached the summit of one of the hills we had seen them before there was a party of about 20 hill walkers sitting having lunch. When they finally left a good 20 minutes later we started to have a look around the cairn as we had looked everywhere else. Within minutes my dad spotted one of these Ptarmigan shaped rocks with a difference it wasn't a rock it was the real thing, and it was sat only 15 metres away from where the walkers had been!! While we were working on our game plan on how to approach the bird I saw a head pop up 5 metres or so to its left, it was his mate!! They allowed us to come really close, at one point the cock ptarmigan walked right up to us.
