Taken at Bretton Lakes in West Yorks. People kept telling me they were present but I was a bit doubtful as I'd never seen one. All I had to do today though was stand still for 5 minutes and she(I think) came to join me, landing only about 25 feet away!

What a fabulous shot - full marks for one of the most difficult species to see down a lens - and you've done it justice too - a pearler - I'm impressed - and not jealous at all ............. ?!

Thanks Pauline. It was a lucky couple of days for me, first a Puffin and then the LSW. I thought the Woodpeckers were ultra-secretive but she just flew in from my left, seemingly without a care in the world. She must have seen me but wasn't at all bothered. I must go back before all the leaves grow and block out all the light!
