Taken today at Bretton Lakes. This nesting pair decided I was no threat and carried on nest building while I was stood just a few feet away. Enabling me to get what are easily my best ever shots of this tiny bird!

Excellent shot! I know from bitter experience how difficult it is to get a decent shot of these birds.

Thanks all for the comments.

Graham I share your frustration. I've been trying to get some shots of Goldcrests for about 2 years now but never got close until yesterday. Getting one to keep still for longer than about 0.5 seconds is another matter though! I came back with more fresh-air and motion-blur shots than ever before! Thankfully there were a few in between where the bird was still.

Yes Billy, I can tell a fellow sufferer! My last experience really made me weep. I'd spotted a pair, in good light displaying to each other; a great sight. Only problem was my camera shutter decided that that was the time to fail!

Sods law strikes again.
