While pruning back honeysuckle I discovered this nest which was unoccupied which surprised me at this time of year.

I would love to know whether, as I suspect wasps are responsible, or maybe hornets or even bees. I have to say that we were untroubled by any of the 'suspects and I wonder why they vacated such a beautiful fragile nest. It was facing South if that helps.

If you dilute some PVA glue to the consistency of milk and spray the nest with it a few times, letting it dry between, it will make it more robust for keeping.

Thank you for this piece of information. Very interestiing I had no idea that this could be done.

However we do not intend to try and keep it as all we wanted to do was to share our find and be grateful neither H.O. or I were stung.

Thank you for this confirmation. I agree it was a fantastic creation, will wait and see if they build another this year but it will need to warm up a bit!!
