After seeing the Hornet robberfly at Thursley I was fascinated by these in a local grass meadow and took a photo which WAB has ID for me (as I do not have a clue about insects!) and it turns out they are robberflies as well!! I think these two are being nice to each other though not like the hornet robberfly and the grasshopper!!

a nicely taken shot Linda, I like the composition. These are defintely Robberflies - they make great macro subjects but I've seen very few this year.

Thank you Matt that is a big compliment from the 'master of macro'.

There were a lot in the field where this was taken, they were all in pairs mating, it is part of Hampshire Cricket Grounds The Rose Bowl and a match was taking place but they were not interested!!(Nor was I for that matter) I presume the female is the larger one next to the stem? It looks like she is screaming!I am always fascinated by the detail of macro images
