After 14 days in the cocoon this Sawfly emerged on the 9th August at about 11am. After walking around for a while it attempted some short and clumsy flights. In flight it sounded like a wasp. When airborne it flew over to the rose bush where it was born. Here it settled for a few hours and rubbed its wings with its hind legs. It also touched its abdomen on the rose stems before moving on and repeating the process. This might have been to test how hard it was to cut the stem with its saw like ovipositor. Within about 2 minutes of getting to the rosebush a male of the same
