I think this looks more like Xanthogramma pedissequum. Its a lovely pic!

Thank you Eucera, I am sure you are correct. I searched as much as my very limited knowledge would allow, and thought the photo of Eupeodes nitens was very brown compared to my photo but could not find a black version so settled for Eupeodes nitens. Thank you for your help. I will try and change the name.
