Three cracking shots with plenty of feather detail. Do you think the reduced contrast of the dull day helps bring out the fine detail or is it down to the flash?

Thanks Rob, Jules and Demicav.
Rob that's a difficult one to answer but I do think the flash helps to lift detail combined with being quite close to the birds as well. It is quite possible though that the reduced contrast of a dull day helps to bring out the detail as well
