They were preparing to mate when someone heard our shutters going twenty to the dozen and dashed across to see what we were photographing - the birds shot back into the undergrowth of the front garden - did I curse - not much ..........

Thanks Gill - I think the reason is the RSPB have mown a circle into the front garden of the visitor centre leaving at least a metre depth deep growth around and the birds seem to favour the short grass for a sunbathe! A coach group of pensioners actually had these two mating in front of them in this very spot a week earlier - the 'oldies' bless em' thought nowt of it - just two birds 'gettin' it on' apparently!!
