I have up to 8 pheasants visiting the back garden, I put the "wild bird food" out on a daily basis

Is this a 'melanistic' bird? The plumage looks darker than usual.

Could well be, we have seven hens and one cock who come into the garden. There are some darker plumaged pheasants on Lord Leverhulme's estate that have spread around Wirral. I have been told that this race was introduced because it made better sport for the shooters!
