Thanks Nick, We had set ourselves two target species for the weekend, Swallowtail Butterfly and Norfolk Hawker Dragonfly and we got them both, to say I was chuffed would be a very big understatement!!

Thanks very much guys, I had never seen Swallowtails before Friday, they are stunningly large insects, very charismatic, and a joy to photograph.

Thanks Dave and Pauline, we saw several of these about on the reserve but not at close range. This individual was feeding in the sheltered sunny corner of the field next to Marshside cottage on the walk around the top of the reserve, although I was using the Bigma I was only set at around 130mm for most of these shots, it let me get very close which was superb.

Stunning shot, Steve. Yet to see one of these - Julie's marked it down as one of our targets for the year. The colours are striking - what distance with the Bigma??

Thanks Chris, they are well worth visiting Strumpshaw fen for, plus you may well get the bonus of Norfolk Hawker there as well!
I was ridiculously close to this individual, the Bigma was set well below 250mm for all the images I took of it, this one was taken at 166mm so you can guess how close I was, roughly about the same distance as I would have been to get a full-frame image with the Sigma 150 macro.
They are very approachable when they are busy feeding.
