Nice photo Dave,

Like you, I can't wait to try out the new camera on dragonflys and damsels.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment Duncan.

The pic was taken using an Olympus E510, Sigma 105mm and a ZD EC-14.

I hope you enjoy using your new camera, I'll watch for your pics.

What a superb capture!

I also have an Olympus E-510 though not your 105mm lens (I have the Zuiko 50mm). Hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions: Is the ZD EC-14 to connect the Sigma lens to the Olympus body? I wonder how heavy it is to use or do you always use a tripod? How do you rate this combination?

Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment Polly.

The ZD EC-14 is the Zuiko Digital 1.4x Teleconverter, it increases the magnification of the lens/TC combination, it can be used with any of the 4/3 lenses although some will give better results than others.

I also have the Zuiko Digital 50mm, which is an excellent lens, and use it in conjunction with the ZD EX-25 to achieve 1:1 magnification with the lens.

The Sigma 105mm and 150mm macro lenses give 1:1 magnification without the requirement for any additional extension tubes, although they can be used with them to achieve additional magnification, both lenses come in 4/3 fit for use with Olympus DSLR's.

The Sigma 105mm and E510 combination is fairly light easy to hand hold, however if you are trying to obtain 1:1 magnification I would recommend using a tripod, or monopod, to reduce the risk of camera shake.

Personally, I think the combination is excellent, the Sigma 105mm is always in my backpack and is usually attached to either the E510 or an E1.

I hope this is of some help, please feel free to pm me if I can provide any further information.

Thanks for looking and your kind comments Pauline.

I think I still have a way to go before I produce images as good as yours though.

Maybe you'll be able to give me some tips at the Minsmere meet.

You'd be more than welcome Pauline.

I'm not sure there will be many Dragonflies around at that time, it should be an interesting day though.
