In this photo you can clearly see the ring on the stem and the darker fibrils or scales on the cap. Species of Lyophyllum would not have these characters. This is Honey Fungus, Armillaria sp.

I keep trying to get the ID right before posting to save pestering the gallery editors but failing abysmally ;-)
My new book says that honey fungus is "one of the most confusing for the beginner to identify as it has such a variable appearance". Now that's just not playing fair!
