OOh Ria - fantastic - is this your garden - if it is you're very fortunate - we have to travel to watch 'our badgers'

What a great picture! I'd be pleased with one in my garden.

Great shot Maria, I am very envious as the only Badgers I have seen have been road kills, hopefully I will see a live one someday.

Pauline thanks for your comment and no this is not my garden I wish it was. This was taken in Wales our family have a static caravan on a caravan site there. We have been feeding them for years. This was the most we have had at any one time thirteen turned up that night it was incredible.

Ah shame - there was me imaging you sat on your balcony at home with a brew and these below you - still its nearly as good at the static! 'Our' set in south lakes has 13 at the min - the most we have ever seen from there and we're hoping they continue to breed and avoid any badger pitfalls. The local Kendal police are aware of the sett and of our interest in it and have our car reg numbers - the locals also know us and our vehicles by sight and are used to us being parked in the vicinity without it sparking a panic.
In the early days of going out 'watching' we sat out at a sett in Denbighshire - and attracted the attention of first the local police and then the area car was seen appraoching with 'blues and twos'! We were casually brewing up on a Blueit - as you do - before begining an hour and halfs journey home in the early hours of the morning . . . ever since then we have made sure the police are aware of us -before- we set up to watch!!

Thanks Pauline for your info, and interest, they are wonderful animals and I feel very privileged and lucky to have seen so many, these from Wales are quite used to people being around quite a few people on site have feed them and many people keep the kids up till they come to feed so we get quite a crowd outside the caravan just coming to look at them, the joy on the kids faces say it all really.
The worse thing is this year we have been told we are not to feed them anymore due to the damage they have been causing on the site during the closed season it has been said that a few gas pipes have been chewed through and gardens around the caravans have been dug up, this could be squirrels and rabbits of course, its a shame because it's a tradition with a lot's of people on site and although this year they have not been fed by anyone they still come around the site. I just hope they have not come to rely on the food source it has been years they have been fed and all off a sudden it stops. We are going to close the van up this weekend so I am hoping to see a few just to see if they look healthy and not suffering due to the lack of food.
The police should visit Wales if they are concerned as a few have been caught in traps a few local walkers have found them its such a shame this still goes on.
