What a lovely looking moth - its wings are very impressive, is it a day flier? I have never seen one of these. Great photo!

Nice shot Andy, this is the only Clearwing I've ever managed to see (but mine was a female), they're very nice moths.

Yes, all the clearwings are day flying moths, and almost impossible to find unless you use pheromone lures, which is how I caught this one, and also the Six-belted Clearwing I recently posted a photo of. The lures can be amazingly effective - when I tried the Six-belted lure in an area with lots of Bird's-foot Trefoil, I had four or five buzzing around within seconds of getting it out of the bag!
