Not Pterostichus madidus which has rounded hind corners to the pronotum (forebody) and has shiny elytra (hind body). This, I would think, is a Harpalus sp - I'll look at it more closely when I have more time. Remind me if I don't get back within a week or so!

I have just checked Harpalus sp - very similar ..look forward to hearing from you again with an update....

I have just checked Harpalus sp - very similar ..look forward to hearing from you again with an update....

No, I can't really go much further - simply cannot see some of the features you would need. It's legs are chunky and the body is dull which is like some Harpalus species but it might also be one of the Amara genus: if large (>11mms) then perhaps A. aulica - http://tinyurl.com/2u3wvc
If it is Harpalus then, if large, H. rufipes but doesn't really look right.
You might put a link on the forum to let other people have a go?
