The cream-spot ladybird larva is eating the 'harlequin' ladybird pupa - not obvious at this moment (disturbed by the photographer!) but there is a dent in the front right of the pupa. Pupae are particularly prone to predation especially by 'harlequins' but here the cream-spot is getting its retaliation in first! Acton, Middlesex, July 2007

Hi Paul & Ladybirdluva,

Do you mind very much if I ask why the larva is Cal.qua. and not Adalia decempunctata (with a slight uncertainty towards A. bipunctata as I can't see the whole side quite clearly)??

I think Cal.qua. would clearly have longer brushes (thorns if you will). I myself had more doubts of maybe Propylea quatordecimpunctata at first glance (I misinterpreted the current "quattour..." title ), but it's not that either. Ada.dec. really seems to fit nicely though ... or am I wrong (just a beginner after all)?

Interested,

Arp

Rather late at night but I'll give this more thought tomorrow! I don't actually remember this one so will need to look up the original pictures and my notes. I could have been wrong!
