Mature male taken this afternoon at a pond near to where I live. I simply pushed the stick into the bank then sat back and waited, this male had taken it as his perch within 5 minutes, I just wish they were all as easy as this species!

Just about perfect Steve. I wish they were all as confiding as this. Spent a good couple of hours this afternoon trying to photograph a Black Tailed Skimmer with no success.

Absolutment magnifique!! Steve, that as Roger said is just about perfect, I am hoping to get close to broad bodied chasers before too long, first thing I will do is find a decorative stick!

Thanks Roger & Jon, this was the species that sparked my passion for Dragonflies many years ago, they look magnificent, will take to new perches readily and are very easy to approach if you move slowly.

I have made the mistake of using poor looking sticks before Jon so this time I tryed to look for something a little less straight & ordinary.

Keep chasing those Skimmers Roger, they will test your patience beyond measure but if you stick at it you will be rewarded!

Thanks very much Jeff, a plain background certainly makes all the difference when it comes to showing the wing detail at its absolute best.

And that is the absolute best - what a shot! (Dare I be picky? I would have cloned out that bit of stick on the bottom right as my eyes jumped away from its wings and to that corner and back when really I wanted to stare and stare at its perfection - and worship!!)

Thanks Pauline, I think you are quite correct about that bottom corner, I'll have a play with it when I get chance.

I now have a version with the bottom right corner cloned out and as you say Pauline it makes the world of difference!

Good luck Jon, it seems that there are plenty of these about this year, if you get one on your twig be sure to move slowly and not across his field of vision and hopefully you will be rewarded with some very close views of a magnificent insect!
