great shot, what distance , and what lense you use ollie, as im looking to upgrade to cannon

I'm not very good at judging distance but I was quite close as the bird was hovering over a reed bed and I was on a bank some ten feet above the reed bed. I would guess no more than twenty foot away. I was using the bigma, sigma 50-500mm hand holding.

Thanks Graham, yeah it's a shame about the eye but the light was not particularly good and I only had chance of three shots before it was away.

I wasn't being in any way critcal of the shot Roger, it's far better than any I've ever got, and no doubt as good as you could have got in the circumstances.

I wasn't being in any way critcal of the shot Roger, it's far better than any I've ever got, and no doubt as good as you could have got in the circumstances.

Roger, I don't know if you want to try this but if you go back to your original. (Hope you have Photo shop??) Magnify the image - a lot, lasoo the eye and and adjust with levels you will perhaps get what you wanted. It sometimes is worthwhile feathering very slightly before enhancing the levels. Jon
