After fungi-ing in the woods we came to the edge of Grasmere (Lake District) and up jumped this dipper from under our feet . . . I cursed - then sat down by a boulder to wait and sure enough it came back! It was evening and the light was poor and the sun gone over the hill but this will do for starters!

Not the easiest to get Pauline but you captured this one very well. You have got to take the opportunity given, they can't all be taken in perfect light.

A very good shot PMG. I have not seen one for some time and never been able to get a shot of one.

Thanks folks - it was one of those unique opportunities and wholly unexpected. Ok so there is a decent bit of river between Grasmere and Rydal and I've seen dipper around before but to have it feeding less than 100ft away was magic! I couldn't stop shaking! I was dithering around like a right fool! I've so wanted to take a pic of a dipper - for years I've wanted to - its just sort of one of those birds - like woodpeckers and kingfishers - you just want one!! Goodness only knows how I would be if it was an eagle in front of me - I'd probably drop the camera!!!!!
