It looks like Nomada fucata kind of solitary bee which looks like a wasp.

Thanks for your suggestion. I think that you are spot on. A friend of mine suggested a Paper Wasp, Polistes gallicus.



Having read up a little more following your suggestion, it is noted that this insect is found in southern england. For your information I live on the Nottinghamshire Leicestershire Lincolnshire border. That is between Nottingham and Grantham. Not really south.

Not Nomada fucata I think (there are 2 spots on this one's scutellum (not one), and the first abdominal tergite is yellow rather than red/brown). I suspect it is a second brood Nomada goodeniana
