Nice image bugbotherer, was it on a lily leaf when you captured it, I am sure I have seen this type of insect on the leaf of my lilies around my pond last year if so, am I right in thinking that they feed on the leaves of the lily.

Barbara, the red beetles you see on your Lilies are Lily Beetles (see picture eigfht images along). The Cardinal Beetle larva feeds on dead wood.
