Possibly Victorian-era Water Company build? In this part of Pennine Yorkshire you find a lot of higher quality walls like this (and sometimes quirky turrets and similar by catchwater drains in the middle of nowhere). Built by water companies and presumably a way of showing the companies' standards and resources to the world - plus labour was cheap . . .



EDIT! - I had honestly missed the bit about the reservoir when I wrote the above

Thank you all. When your out and about you walk past miles of walls - only when you see one as quirky as this do you do a double take. Grassholme res not far from where daughter lives in Romaldkirk. Love that part of co Durham
