Thanks, this is a young female bat that came into care last night found after being shut in a house for four or five days. As I type this she is eating mealworms like they are going out of fashion. She will be released when she gains a bit of weight and can demonstrate she is capable of sustained flight. She currently weighs 3.5 grams and needs to be in the region of 5 to 6 grams.

Stunning bats, good luck with the rehabilitation. Only 5 to 6 grams... thanks for showing them, otherwise would never see what they look like, see plenty where I work but never close just amazes me the size and variations of bats and the areas they have colonised.

Just seen these fascinating photos John - thank you.
Looks like she's making a sound of some type in some of the pics - is she?

Hi Bruce, this open mouth posture is typical of whiskered bats. I wouldn't call it aggressive just a "beware - I'm here" gesture. She wasn't making any sound when these images were taken but was when being handled to and from her box.
She's gained 1.5 grams and flew well indoors last night so a couple more days and she'll be released.
