It was at least 8ft up the trunk so out of reach of any closer viewing so I decided to try the 'newish' 400 on it (only used it for birds up to now) and wanted to see what it would do on a different subject: I think its ok - I don't reckon the macro would have done it much better?

The subtle contrast plus that tinge of colour showing through from the cap makes for a great shot !!
